We Walked, We Knocked, We Conquered

This is not just a summary of StAY Klean & StAY Alive Anti-Drugs Roadshow 2007 but a Praise Report!!! You may recall the dilemma we had on what to do about about our traditional roadshow format in light of the ongoing political campaigners. The answer God gave resulted in one of the most effective roadshows to date, in terms of reach and impact!!

Starting off at the open frontage at ACK St Andrews church with prayers, energisers and a briefing of the StAY Alive members and other participants (who were designated footsoldiers for the day - this is WAR) on the five point agenda to be taken to households and business premises. The participants were divided randomly by a color coded wristband into four groups each coming up with a team name viz: Tigers, Warriors, Jeshi la Mungu and Eagles. The assigned group leaders took their members through the five point agenda. More energisers followed before our tools of trade for the day landed and the footsoldiers got down to arranging the pamphlets into booklets. Before setting off for what we came for each soldier was armed with skills to counter any questions and ho to react to different situations. Further, with a branded tshirt and cap, the message was clear to all. If that was not enough a free sticker was being dished to keep the message going on even after we left. Did we mention that stickers had been put on a number of Route 44 matatus the previous evening?

All set the soldiers set out. Pitching tent at Mirema and later next to Avante Garde High School the soldiers got to knocking on doors while a jazz band kept the mood at the tent alive with great music. At the tent were video shows and counselors from Freedom From Addiction, a group with whom we have partnered and developed a relationship over the years. StAY Alive merchandise was also available for sale.

A summary of the soldiers activities can be said as: more than 500 doors were knocked, 800 stickers distributed and almost 3,000 information booklets containing details ranging from what drugs are to the effects and the addiction cycle to how a parent can tell whether their teen is into drugs to the relationship between drugs and HIV/AIDS etc etc issued.

We all then assembled at the final tent station at 5:30 to summarise the day with a public declaration of what we stand for.

A PROUD MEMBER

I have always had this soft spot for the StAY ALIVE. To me is the kind of relationship that is like son to parents. I joined the group just after high school and my first friend was Steve Karanja. He walked with me through the tough times that I was going through. I was overwhelmed by the love and understanding that I got as I integrated with the other youths. It was a place I know for sure that you can never get wrong advices. Its is my prayer that we continue to mould characters who will not only be leaders but are leaders with a difference. In this I mean leader who will impact Kenya and the world for a better, safe and peaceful place. I miss all the fun in the activities through out the year and especially the precious lessons that come along. StAY ALIVE has taught to leave in example by emulating Christ. I have grown from a young man to a fine gentleman who can face anything with Christ who strengthens him. Here Am probably like Samuel Wamkota My dear friend and tutor. I teach keyboard, praises, and being a leader StAY taught me to be. I miss all of you and you are always in my heart and prayers. My God give us the grace to Carry on. Am a proud member of StAY ALIVE even now.

StAY Klean & StAY Alive Anti-Drugs Roadshow 2007

Its here!!! The big one is here. StAY Alive's biggest event - in terms of reach and societal impact, happens on Nov 24th 2007.

Under the K.A.T.A.A Initiative, the roadshow is the major event in StAY Alives anti-drugs program. As it has come to be known, the roadshow is an engaging and heated run through the estates.

However this year sees heighted political activity and it may be difficult to distinguish us from the mostly frustrating political campaigners. In order not to loose our intended impact and to separate ourselves from the seekers of political office, this years roadshow will take the form of silent marches, door to door outreaches and centralised information centres. You will not see the puppeteers, the live music, or the brass bands that you have been accustomed to... you can however be assured that all the happenings that take place behind these activities including information distribution, man to man exchanges, counseling sessions etc will be there.

What should make this years show interesting is the fact that we shall actually be physically knocking on doors, distributing info on a personal level and generally get to campaign for LIFE... thus this years slogan... Say Yes To Life - Say No To Drugs KATAA.

The slogan is actually a vote... you say YES to life by saying NO to drugs!!! Keep it here for more updates.

phd 2007 Phase I

The Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon (one in the Greatest Race on Earth Series) happened on Oct 28. Somewhere in Zimmerman, another marathon, the phd Prais-athon was being run... and what a marathon it was. From the first service at 8:00am to the third which ended at 1:15pm, and then the afternoon marathon... praise was lifted high.

It happens all over again on Nov 2nd... this time 9.5 hours of marathon... I call it the full marathon... Karibu sana...

Meanwhile, some shots of phase 1:
